About carnavi® Map Data

Your carnavi comes with map data which has been preinstalled in the hard disk.

Carnavi map data contains 4 road classifications i.e. Highway, Federal Road, Main Road and Street. Although the map data covers the entire Peninsular Malaysia, this does not mean that all the roads to every corner exists. Therefore, you may discover areas where some roads or streets do not exist in the map data.

The current map data preinstalled in the hard disk is referred to as Version 1, Volume 1 (v1.1). As a special introductory package, Navi & Map is offering a FREE map update to Version 1, Volume 2 (v1.2) to customers that have purchased carnavi with Volume 1 preinstalled.

What to Expect in Your Free Update (v1.2)

Navi & Map will provide the updated map data, referred to as Version 1, Volume 2 (v1.2) by the end of March 2008. This update will be given free to all carnavi customers with Version 1, Volume 1 map data preinstalled in their carnavi.

This crucial update would contain:

1. Wider Area Coverage

The map update will cover over 1,300 city centers*, from 900 city centers in Volume 1.

2. More Points of Interests

carnavi has 36 POI categories which are identified by unique 2D icons. In total, there are approximately 12,000 POIs. Directions to all these POIs are stored in the map data.

carnavi would also have complete POI listing and directions for all golf courses, airports, state hospitals and state post offices in Peninsular Malaysia.

Therefore, you will be able to drive everywhere in Peninsular Malaysia by setting these POIs as your destination.

*Definition of City Center Every area has a representative point that is stored in the map data. This representative point is usually referred to the central post office, which is normally located at the centre of each area. Therefore, the representative point will also be the ‘City Center’ for the area. Since all states and districts would have a central post office (i.e. the ‘City Center’), and these post offices are considered a Point of Interest (POI) in carnavi, you would have no problem to drive to a city center over Peninsular Malaysia. Total number of ‘city centers’ for v.1.2 is approximately 1,300.
